Volunteer Activities: Tax-Aide program (Runs from February 1-April 15); TRIAD program (a safety and security program run with the police and fire departments where emergency beacon bulbs, smoke & CO2 detectors and other emergency/safety goods are installed and distributed); National Day of Service projects, etc.

PINEBELT ASSOCIATION FOR FAMILIES
Strives to improve the lives of the elderly and chronically disabled through an interfaith volunteer care-giving program

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Age Requirement: 18 years and up for program; 21 years and up to drive 
Faith in Action Helping Hands Program
Volunteer Activities: Provide elderly and disabled with services such as transportation, shopping and errands, yard work, minor home repairs, reassurance calls, companionship, assisting elderly with in home needs (non-medical assistance) and other needs as they arrive.

Material Needs: Office supplies

Evening or Weekend Projects: Assist with yard work, minor home repairs, house cleaning, providing companionship, providing transportation 

Family or Group Projects: Assist with yard work, minor home repairs, housecleaning, and other needs

Training: Provided—takes about 1 hour
Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP)(for grandparents and other relatives raising grandchildren)
Age Requirement: 16 years and up for program; 21 years and up to drive 

Volunteer Activities: Work with grandchildren during support groups, chaperone groups on outings and recreational events, limited tutoring.

Holiday Projects: “Grandparents” picnic in September, overnight camping in October, other intergenerational activities

Evening or Weekend Projects: Assist with yard work, housecleaning, providing companionship, transportation 

Family or Group Projects: Assist on outings, childcare during meetings, yard work, shopping, etc.

Training: Provided—takes about 1 hour

Time period(s) volunteers are needed: Morning Afternoon Evening

Minimum time required of volunteer(s): 2hr block, for tutoring three month commitment with one hour per week required


TWIN OAKS SENIOR CENTER (Pine Belt Mental Health) 
The program is designed to help older adults improve coping skills, increase socialization, decrease isolation and overall, to improve their quality of life.

Volunteer Activities: e-mail pen pals (can be done without visits), Assist with special events; visit bed-bound residents and provide “in-room” activities; play simple games with residents during their leisure time; provide special entertainment

Material Needs: Arts and crafts, painting easels, passenger van, gardening materials

Holiday Projects: Christmas parties, Easter egg hunts, Halloween carnival

Evening or Weekend Projects: Storytelling, singing, any type of entertainment

Volunteer Activities: Work individually with residents or assist with group activities, games and special events/celebrations.  Musicians, singers, artists and speakers welcome.

Material Needs:  checkers and chess games, books, flowers

Minimum Time Required of Volunteers:  30 minutes to an hour

Volunteers Needed:  Monday-Sunday

 

LOYALTON OF HATTIESBURG
Provides assisted living to seniors in a homelike setting

Volunteer Activities: General volunteer workers, performers such as piano players, singers, and dancers, instructors/demonstrators (art, cake decorating, dancing, flower arranging), nurses or student nurses for blood pressure screenings, Bingo calling, helping with shopping trips /outings etc.

Material Needs: Door prizes, game prizes, blank greeting cards, books, flowers, candy, etc.

Family and Group Projects: Organizations, schools, and churches are welcome to perform with singing, drama, dancing, etc.

Volunteer Activities: Bingo; Parties; Apartment projects such as reorganizing closets, kitchen pantries, etc; visiting with residents who need some extra company; bulletin boards; office work including newsletters.

Evening or Weekend Projects: Sometimes we have special parties and programs on the weekends and in the evenings that require extra volunteer assistance.

Family and Group Projects: We can tailor most of our project needs easily to groups and/or families.

Holiday Projects: Christmas party decorations and decorating the facility for Christmas; Assisting in serving for the buffet.

Other Information: With new volunteers, since we are not a nursing home but an assisted living facility we have no training that deals with medical issues. Our guidelines, however deal with the proper treatment and approach in conversation and relations with senior adults
