Hours of Operation: Central office, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Age Requirement: 14 years and up

Volunteer Activities: Disaster services (requires training), health and safety services (requires training), office assistance, fund raising and other services, mailings, and other projects

Other Volunteer Positions:

1) Together We Prepare (Schools or Workplace) Leader: Presents or assists in presentation of disaster preparedness workshops. (Training provided)

2) Clerical Volunteer: Misc. phone and office duties. (Phone, Computer and handwriting skills required.)

3) Data Entry-Access. DB: Assist staff with data entries and accessing data base. (Knowledge of MS. Access required. Will train for CHERS HR.)

4) Utility Assistance Caseworker: Process claims for clients seeking assistance with utilities. (No training required.)

5) Disaster Services Instructor (Must complete all basic Red Cross disaster classes and training areas of interest.)

6) H&S Instructor: Teaches FA/CPR/AED and Workplace Training classes. Teaches Life- guarding and/or CPRO classes. Makes HIV/AIDS presentations. (Must complete all relevant courses of instruction by Red Cross.)

7) Red Cross Representative (No training required.)

Material Needs: Personal hygiene items, new toys, games, puzzles, school supplies

Holiday Projects: Christmas project for fire victims

Evening or Weekend Projects: Booths at health fairs, festivals, first aid stations, etc.

Training: Provided for disaster services and health and safety services

R3SM (Recover, Rebuild, Restore Southeast Mississippi)
R3SM will coordinate recovery services designed to alleviate suffering and stress for the People of Forrest, Lamar, and Perry Counties who have unmet needs due to the occurrence of a disaster...currently serving Hurricane Katrina Victims.

Volunteer Activities: Needs Assessment surveyors (will be trained to do Needs Assessment Surveys for people in the Forrest, Lamar, and Perry Counties); Administrative duties; Construction management; Home repair and construction; Spiritual and mental care; other related duties.

Material Needs: Land and other real estate for volunteer housing, warehousing, and staging; building materials for home repair and construction; Office supplies, etc.

THE SALVATION ARMY
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ without discrimination. 

Provides crisis intervention and direct services to area residents in need. Temporary assistance offered with rent, food and other essential expenses, homeless shelter, counseling, summer camping programs for adults, assistance during times of disaster, school supplies, seasonal assistance and senior adult centers. Provides character-building and spiritual growth programs for youth through Corps Youth, Summer camps, and the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club programs. These include various activities for children ages 6-18. The school The School for Performing Arts provides classes in visual art, dance, voice, drama and band at locations in Hattiesburg, Columbia and Perry County.

Volunteer Activities: Assist with many of the programs listed above with tasks including clerical assistance, tutoring, sorting clothes, working individually with children, working with children in group activities, working in the thrift store and assisting with special events

Material Needs: Office supplies, school supplies, arts and crafts supplies for youth, canned goods, clothing, toys and clothing for Angel Tree children, used vehicles

Holiday Projects: Thanksgiving food boxes, Christmas registration, Angel Tree, Christmas Kettle Bells

Training: Volunteer application to be completed. Background check required to work with children.
